i had a it couple months ago and used it with a few nostriches for coordinating some things. i recently uninstalled it though when i was purging apps i didn't use. it seemed to work well for the most part.
Overall cool but I will stick to running my own E2E only for the people I let in on a Start9 Embassy Server. You can't hack what you can't even find. @jack I think you'd love Start9.
Sphinx Chat is imo very complimentary to Nostr as a V4V media platform, like a lightning Instagram, plus it lets you subscribe to, play, and zap V4V podcasts. But LN isn't just integrated into Sphinx, it actually uses Lightning to transmit messages, and you have to run it on top of your own node or a friend's node so it's properly decentralised. Tor is built in as well so any home node without open firewalls and port forwarding can run the necessary software. Very clever Bitcoin native tech.
Yay!! I love all of this new disruptive tech. I can see something like this on nostr.💻💋🫂💜
Its a great messenger. i use it for a few months now. Development is going fast. But there are indeed some issues

I think #[2] could run their protocol on Nostr relays, if we wrote a nip for them. The SimpleX core protocol spec was made to run on top of any reliable queue. #[3] what do you think?
Interesting idea. I think redundancy support in the client is needed to make it reliable/useful… Re any queue - any sequential transport, e.g. there is implementation that wraps SMP into WebSocket frames, we just don’t use it yet, and it’s easy to wrap in any block transport - SMP uses fixed size blocks. Happy to brainstorm it further.
Simplex possibly is being borrowed from the Ham Radio world which means a direct radio to radio conversation. Ham radio nerd here 🤓
They also have some ideas around enterprise offerings. They are committed to keeping the core protocols open source though.
I can definitely see this being used for server to server messaging. I'm already thinking about having our azure containers using this to send secure messages between them. hmm 🤔
#[4] #[5] #[2] any thoughts on whether SimpleX's SMP running on Nostr Relays would be in the right direction? In light of Encrypted DMs and Voice Calls coming soon on bird app. And some plebs in Nostr feed voicing hopes for a SimpleX-Nostr collaboration.
One this is for certain. DM’s need some work. Huh #[7]
Omg u have no idea how excited k am for this THANK U 🙏🏼 I’ve been looking for a truly private & secure alternative to the other allegedly secure messaging apps since the 2020 civil liberties heist from our ever increasing authoritarian govt. PS Way to crush it with Nostr 🔥 This is the future because the only true & disruptive alternative to the current Meta Inc. data cartel monopoly where others own your data & profit off of it is a Web3 platform where the user owns their own data and creates alternative monetization models for the user & the platform like getting paid to share your data, mining, doing work to earn Bitcoin, subscription for hosting, etc. Data is the new oil so allowing the user to own their own data & be able to monetize their data & leverage Blockchain and Web3 is mega amazing. 👏🏼
