Hi Violet News, and welcome to #nostr! πŸ€“ I tried to ⚑️zap you some welcome sats (bitcoin), but you haven't set up a #lightning wallet for your profile yet πŸ₯Ί Doing so allows anyone to zap you some sats when they value your contribution, want to say "hi", or any other reason! The easiest option for beginners is to use the in-built wallet in the @YakiHonne app (link below). If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, a dedicated lightning wallet is also a good idea! Some nice options include the @Minibits, @Mysterious Hamster and @Wallet of Satoshi apps. Once you've got it sorted, be sure to post a note including #checkmyaddy and I'll try to zap you again! If you need help, just ask 😊 I can also help people check their #nostr address is working (if they have one). Nostr addresses are not mandatory, but some people like using them to add a personal touch to their profile. Once you've set it up, just post a note including #checkmyaddy and I'll check it again for you. If you like, I can give you one for free at "yourname@minestr.app". Just get in touch! 😊 Made with πŸ’š by @minestr.app

Hello Violet and welcome to nostr. I don’t usually recommend adding a lightning wallet to new nostriches, but for anyone providing a service right out of the gate should really have a way to get tips or in this case zaps.
I was posting on Primal desktop. I was also not getting notifications. And then Primal completely froze up on me. Now I’m replying to you on Damus. I would appreciate any help, thank you!
Do you already have a lightning wallet? If not and you just want something fast and easy, I would set up a strike.me account, it is a Bitcoin exchange, but you can also set up a lightning address and use it as a custodial wallet
I do not have a lightning wallet. I have an account at crypto.com because it seemed like the most user friendly app but I couldn’t find a lightning wallet option. Is strike.me an easy set up for people like me?
But also if no one else has warned you, you have to remember there are going to be bugs in Nostr. Nostr is still in its infancy… like worldwide web in 1992, but one of the awesome parts is that us non-techie people are shoulder to shoulder with the developers and sometimes you will be the one to find a bug or suggest a feature, and one of them might fix it
Okay, I understand that makes perfect sense in your mind and it’s probably super simple and easy… but I don’t even know what an LN is and it feels like trying to figure out what a bunch of extraterrestrials are saying, lol. But thank you! I’m on Primal desktop and Damus.
Oh okay...I don't know about Damus btw, I thought you are an android user like me... 😁 Btw Primal itself has a build-in wallet (at east on my Primal Android app). So it's pretty simple for me. LN means Lightning Network. It's like Apple Pay, a method of easy and fast Bitcoin transactions, mostly used for small amount transactions.
For example, this is my LN address from Blink wallet app on my phone: pallabjd@blink.sv It's an Bitcoin Lightning wallet. image And I just add this LN address to my ID on Primal, by editing the profile. That's it. image When somebody zaps me, sats directly goes to my Blink wallet.
Welcome to #Nostr ! image Suggestion to find whom to follow: Follow topics using hastags, you can follow hashtags... Suggestion for Nostr Clients: Exclusive for Android: @Amethyst is an excellent choice, feature rich, supports privacy, tiktok like feeds, multi user, supports #Amber (more security), #TOR, private chats, excellent look and feel, it is ahead of most clients by far. Working for Android and iOS: @0xchat is a good alternative, more like Telegram, including chat groups, channels and voice and video calls, all encrypted e2e. It is powerful with privacy as well, it has secret chats and it supports Amber, #TOR in the settings "Use SOCKS proxy" (just install Orbot and in the settings be sure it allows background starts you don't need to have it running as VPN). It has a wallet built in and interesting features of its own. Exclusive for iOS: @Damus (users talk positive about this client, give it a try) Suggestion for Wallets: Depends on your technical level and how much time are you willing to spend understanding and setting them up: 1. The impatient with no time to waste and who doesn't care to use custodial wallets (your money...): Go for Wallet of Satoshi (https://www.walletofsatoshi.com/), add it to your profile, it doesn't have the NWC (network wallet connect) setup, but you really don't need it. When you try to zap someone, the wallet will open and the invoice will load, easy and setup free. You are set. (they don't work in USA, unless you use a VPN) 2. For the impatient with no time but looking to have a non custodial option plug and play. The most complete web based non custodial wallet is definitely @Mysterious Hamster, https://coinos.io, rich with features, you can receive emails every time you are zapped too. Very cool wallet, the dev team rocks, they are doing the good work creating more Bitcoin awareness and helping businesses to accept it. There is more... Coinos does support ecash, Bitcoin L1 (legacy, segwit and taproot), LNURL, #Bolt11, #Bolt12, LIQUID, and the cherry on top... now it supports signing in with a NIP-55 Signer like #Amber, Nostr Connect or Browser extension, you get as well a cool customize LNURL, like your username@coinos.io to receive your zaps from or SATs from wallets that support BOLT11 & BOLT12. What is not to love! 3. The curious one with not much technical expertise but eager to learn: @Minibits (mobile app, you can buy from them your own address like yourname@minibits.cash BOLT11), the app is well polished, user friendly and the devs are hands on, responsive and active in the #Nostr community. 4. The tech savvy 4.1 GetAlby running AlbyHub (a bit pricey unless you do all yourself, not my cup of tea, but people in the community loves them) 4.2 npub.cash - get your npub followed by @npub.cash and use it as your wallet address to receive anonymous private #LN payments and #cashu payments. You can pay in the wallet web site for a custom address as well (cool) Check my nostr site: https://rod.npub.pro You can get your own site, give it a try, start writing! visit npub.pro Subscribe to my free substack content: Last but not least: Enjoy Nostr!
I have an Android, too! You were right. It was super easy to set up. The only problem is that the setup has a bug. At the end, the app emails me an activation code but there's no place to enter the code, won't allow me to finish the setup, and the email doesn't contain an activation link. I tried to sign up separately with Strike, as ThatDudeLuke@lifeinmi.com recommended (also super easy) but it requires a non-Google phone number, which I don't have (I never use the phone.) I finally gave up but the built-in Primal Wallet is for sure the most user-friendly, if it only worked, haha!

I don't know for your exact purpose but #noStrudel is the absolute best DT client for me.
Use #noStrudel and add #coinos wallet. In noStrudel go to settings, lightening, add coinos wallet and set auto pay with Web LN. Will be able to zap and receive instantly. Coinos is not KYC and don't even need an email address if do not care about getting notified. Stack starts growing send to cold storage.

Post a video and see if it posts correctly
I haven't posted images or video with Gossip, so can't comment on how well it supports that.
I publish both primary (my own investigations) and secondary news (with an emphasis on promoting independent journalists, although I'm not above appreciating mainstream networks.) My sources are all over the board. I never know where I'm going to find info or a story lead. I'd also like to create a community on Nostr where people can contribute info to a news story, where we all work together to figure out the facts. I'm in the US, where it can be a challenge to get info from news media censored by the US government (Russia and China, for example) but there are ways around that and another reason to create a Nostr news community!
