Very happy that nostr doesn’t and can’t put a focus on follower numbers. Good compromise.

I've found how many & who you follow is more important here.
though nearly every client attempts to show follower counts. i think it's human nature to want to know that our voices can be heard.

Would be better, I think, if it didn't even try to count followers.
I think it's an important indicator though. Sometimes I wonder if it makes sense to boost someones note. Cause if he has few followers, I can boost that user's audience. But if he has a lot more followers than me, I don't have to spam ppls feed with the same note over and over again...

It'll be handy for sifting out some copycats but otherwise it's pretty irrelevant.
I don't believe there is a reliable way to do it because there can never be a reliable list of all relays. For any given set of relays you could probably count the "followers" (trusted contacts) of a particular user known to those relays, but it would be computationally pretty expensive.
Yes, Nostr feels very "democratic".

It’s good. It’s just a play on “dance like nobody’s watching”, always post what you want, bc it doesn’t matter how many ppl or who follows you.
What is a follower? I thought this is a note taking app.
why does it make any difference either way? i don't love the link click, personally. seems like it opens up the gates of hell like a download.
Conversations and content quality matter more, anyway.
i boost no matter if they're a whale or a shrimp. me liking someone's content has on correlation to the amount of people that follow them. i boost something that i like and feel that other's should see.

Agree. I either have 88K followers or 13K followers depending on the client. 😂 A large discrepancy.
Should we advocate for clients to not show follower counts? I could get on board with it. I don't think it's a metric we need, even though human nature makes us curious about it.

I think getting a healthy amount of relevant and engaged replies is more useful than a high “I clicked to follow you” number.
Also I’d rather get sats for my content than see my follow count go up.
