#meshcore or #meshtastic ? #asknostr which one and why?
Also recommended hardware and where to buy it for a good price?
I'm interested in setting up a repeater with a solar panel somewhere up the mountain that gets a good view of town and the surroundings building some cheap companion devices(cheapest most basic no screen no GPS etc. )to give to friends around the area.
I'm overwhelmed by the choices and ive spent the entire day reading reddit and product reviews.

I want to know too please!
You habe forgotten Reticulum in your research
Both if you can afford it. Meshcore works better where you will have fixed infrastructure like that repeater you mentioned on the mountain with the solar panel, but meshtastic works better in ad hoc situations, such as emcomm or camping, etc. I find that mesh core has much simpler applications but if you are an open source extremist, you must be careful, because not everything in meshcore is open source. If you stick with the community firmware versions and meshcore-open for your interface app, you're fine, though.
