Food Forest Harvest: Potatoes image This year I didn't plan on planting potatoes. In the past I've spent lots of time and effort for very little return, meager potato harvests. image This year, I found a bag of small seed potatoes from the last harvest I had forgotten about. I planted them quickly and left them on their own for the season. image Harvesting was quick and with all the weeds growing in the row, the rabbits in the rabbit colony cannabis garden got fed well. Now I have about 10lbs of potatoes from about an hours worth of work total between planting and harvesting. Plus, the row is prepped for planting garlic in the next week or two. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #meshtadel #selfsovereignty #foodforest #harvest #potato #subsistancecrop View quoted note →

Here are a few examples of the harvest last year from the food forest. Hard to get a sense of everything in there because it's all so tangled up and wild looking. View quoted note → View quoted note → View quoted note → View quoted note → View quoted note →

Garlic is planted in the food forest The garlic is planted and munched with straw donated to the homestead by a generous permie bitcoiner from the southwest Michigan meetup. The garlic is planted in the row which the potatoes were harvested from earlier in this summer. I didn't have time to add any additional compost so this planting will be a good indicator of the strength of the soil in the food forest with out any additional inputs. All I have to do now (besides weeding a couple times) is wait until harvest next July. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #meshtadel #selfsovereignty #grownostr #foodforest #forestgarden #garlic #garden #gardening #garlicstr #subsistancecrop View quoted note →
