This user deleted his profile shortly after joining Nostr, but it wasn't because of the community. If you read the early comments before he deleted his profile, you'll see Nostriches providing help. They're giving him instructions on how to find tune his feed, choose his own algorithm, and make the most of Nostr - no matter the content. I don't think we as a community could have done any better in this example. I believe this failure at user retention was not at the fault of the community, but more so on the user not willing to learn. Could we have done better? Sure. There's always room for improvement. However, the user needs to be willing to learn as well. They need to be willing to step outside their comfort zone, just a little, and learn. Better luck next time.

There seem to be a lot of talk about bitcoins here. I’m not very interested in that. Are nostr just for people interested in bitcoins? image

If the UI/UX were good, the community wouldn’t need to hand-hold every new user. This includes user, topic, and feature discovery.
Sure, we have a lot of work to do there with onboarding, but having a community offering help is also a great way to gain back the humanization of social media that's been lost over the years.
The human side of #Nostr is the best part. I remember when I joined I had tons of questions and people were always willing to help. Nostriches are keen to see #Nostr succeed
In fact, the community is what makes #Nostr different from Farcaster. I tried Warpcast for a bit, but it never felt as friendly as Nostr and was mostly crypto stuff and air drops and minting NFTs
Early adopters are a different breed. They sense the superiority of some technology and give it a whirl. #Nostr currently is for early adopters #grownostr #plebchain

The problem lies in there's more bitcoin community than there is any other community on nostr. Thus it's hard for people to come here and find a relatable community that's not talking about bitcoin too, and that can be pretty repetitive and off putting, especially when just getting started and not understanding on the same level as others around you, when you just wanted some new cooking recipes, etc.
I always try to engage new people and tell them to engage with lots of people. I have really enjoyed my time here chatting about so many things. Some people need the spoonfeeding I guess.
I think over time Nostr will evolve to be about many things and the fact it’s powered by Bitcoin will become more secondary but at the same time, the conversation must continue in order to keep building for the future.
The fact that you have to study nostr and understand all these different types of relays, and NIPS and learn how set all these things up is a much bigger barrier than most people on here are willing to admit. Huge survivor's bias. When there's an app/website where new users can just open it up and have it walk them through the absolute minimum setup and help with the optional things, when we'll see substancial adoption. No more having to ask for help or get a bunch of unsolicited advice.
You should not have to do this. Nostr is very technical still. Developers know this and they're working on improving UX. It just takes time. Until then, the community has to educate and onboard, IMO.
"Every moment holds potential, whether it's the right time or just a sprinkle of luck! 🌟 Here’s to the unexpected connections that make it all worthwhile. Cheers to exploring Nostr! 🚀✨"
came looking for #povertystr and #hungerstr 🤷‍♂️ It’s simply “what’s happening” if you think about it.
