The point is that the 21 million supply can't ever be increased, and that protects the value of the portion of that supply that I control.

Lol. It can be changed. Of the majority of miners/nodes agree on more than 21million Bitcoins than there will be.
The miner might want that but the nodes will never do that. It's not in their interest.
Miners thought they had this power. Then came the blocksize wars.
They don't.
Nodes do.
