i think it's fair to say that the market moved this way anyway, with DND and sleep mode and then google monopolized the push mechanism on top. pokey is the right path forwards. a protocol, instead of google. anyone can run push over nostr.

Assign different tones, but not for different apps. For different priorities, group apps and people into priorities, thanks to that you know when you hear the sound if you should threat it as an interrupt and evict current task and look at the phone or just register it and put in a queue in your mind
