I don't have any reason to believe given the data available that @ODELL or @MartyBent had anything to do with the #Coldcard heist. This post, if anything, merely reveals that NVK might have had a Freudian slip when telling Odel that the 4.0.0 release was compromised in such a way that he could "steal all your Bitcoin" even without physical access to everyone's coldcards. In other words, the suspicion that NVK knew about Peter's exploit increases. Odell and Marty recommended Coldcard for years, in bad judgment, and have owned up to that.

NVK indicated to Matt Odell that he wouldn't share the details of the bug in 4.0.0 because it would allow Odell to "steal all your Bitcoin", according to Odell. Many claim that Odell was referring to a bug in 4.0.0 that was patched in 4.0.1 which accidentally left the debugging interface enabled (USB serial REPL), which would allow an attacker with physical access to customer coldcards to extract it's secrets. But Odell wouldn't have physical access to customer coldcards, so NVK must have accidentally been referring to Peter Gray's exploit which also shipped in 4.0.0, which *would* allow anyone with knowledge of the exploit to "steal all your #Bitcoin". If they were just some random podcasters I wouldn't think of it. I am not mad at people that just did an ad read. I'm little more concerned about there day jobs at Ten31.
No connection to the heist, focus on optimal health with animal foods.
Mmm, I agree, it does not make any sense that Odell or Marty knew about a backdoor or a vulnerability. As flawed as all humans are, it does not vibe at all with who they are. NaΓ―ve, yes, but complicit? I don't think so. That of course does not absolve them or anyone else of cheerleading NVK with his shenanigans.

Could be that Marty and Odell been played and lies too
To think Coinkite's con extends to everyone that promoted the product is a bit much. Moreover for Odell and Bent to have been in on it would imply not only that they are unethical but also that they are stupid (which they are not). They, more than most, would have understood how damaging this would be to bitcoin - and against their interest. In fact, them peddling Coldcards makes me LESS inclined to think they knew. What would have been more damning would be if they had been subtly directing people AWAY from Coldcards without being transparent as to why. That would tell me they knew something but were scared or disincentivized to expose the exploit.
So bitcoin was created with the notion that ' power back to the people ' was truly the ethos of it all. But with one flaw. Need to somehow trust the people that continue to build the tech after Satoshi. The wallet creator...the dapps creator etc. Can we?
No. We need to maintain the culture of 'verify not trust ' in order to keep the promises of Bitcoin.
The data suggests that Odell is a normal, fallible person. That out of pride and poor judgement, he unintentionally revealed NVK's knowledge of the vulnerability, in order to brag about his self custody guide. I wouldn't characterize that as corrupt, but just regular old sin (pride). Odell gave an authentic and heartfelt apology, owned his sin, and for forgiveness. The guy is horified and understands the implications of this whole mess better than most realize. I forgive him. nevent1qqsqqqpwp3hmxy45tnay8r9rfmu7eazvj9h6c05jtpq2utghy3kvdpcpzfmhxue69uhk7enxvd5xz6tw9ec82csprpmhxue69uhhqun9d45h2mfwwpexjmtpdshxuet5qyv8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnndehhyapwwdhkx6tpdspzqe9v7sz4l2pxhj4cg4lzfmu0hf6fp2a3uakm4d42saf22wswkn22ucqcrd
Beautiful high vibe sentiment. The world needs more of this πŸ™πŸ»πŸ˜Œ
Odell was the only public outside investment. Odell specifically told people using coldcard not to use the dice roll feature to generate their own seedphrase. (The dice feature where the coldcard did the math for you, literally all you had to do was roll dice and input the results into the coldcard) Seriously, I don't even care if he was in on it, I'm sure a lot of people mistakenly took Odell's bad advice. Its their fault for trusting him, but they still got the right to be upset odell misled them.
