i recently purchased my own laptop specifically for travel and paid utmost attention to dimensions because it had to fit in my backpack which in turn had to fit under airline seat ... i never use a laptop at home - only my desktops but my parents don't have a desktop and do not take the laptop with them while traveling - they essentially use their laptop as a desktop replacement ... it just didn't make any sense for me to get anything other than a chonky gaming laptop for an application where it will sit on the desk its whole life and never move ... i did order a no-frills version that doesn't even have per-key RGB lighting since obviously my parents aren't going to customize RGB profiles LOL ... i also went for the lower end Nvidia GPU since they won't be playing any games ... but the CPU is Core Ultra 9 275 HX ... my parents should thank NoStrudel for convincing me that you can never have too much CPU power because with broken enough code even what should have been light weight software can completely bog down older CPUs ... sure if code was good we could all run 20 year old PCs no problem but the trend with modern web apps and pages is absolute resource gluttony ... my mother has a nasty habit of bringing up issues precisely when i don't have time to deal with them - she ALWAYS does that - it's some kind of a sick fetish so she brought up the need for a new laptop precisely when i was busy packing ... knowing full well that i have Attention Deficit and will not be able to control myself and will start researching laptops instead of doing what needs to be done ... but on the upside i did catch a Black Friday sale on this laptop ... their current laptop actually turned 7 years old today - it is my old Dell Precision Mobile Workstation and it just keeps getting more and more flakey and considering they use it for work they kind of can't afford that flakiness ... basically their laptop flips a coin when deciding whether to boot or not - it is seemingly random - and as such it can't be fixed because it does actually work 90% of the time but 90% of the time is not enough ... my delusional mother asked me to buy a laptop for about $300 but insisted that it must be new because it has to have warranty ... well mom, the good news is the laptop i ordered was $500 off for Black Friday but i am afraid Alienware doesn't make $300 laptops ... LOL

i am low key pissed right now ... ordered a laptop for my parents - received confirmation email - it has order number - go to Dell site and the order number there is different - i am like WTF ? then i realize it wasn't an e-mail i was looking at - it was AI summary of the E-Mail which took "purchase ID" number and displayed it as "order number" ... WHEN DID I ASK FOR A FUCKING AI SUMMARY OF MY E-MAIL ? I DIDN'T ! ! ! who the fuck thought it was a good idea to display randomly hallucinated gibberish instead of an actual business document ? luckily the real E-Mail was right below the summary but the summary took up the whole page and it didn't say that it was AI summary ( except in tiny letters on the bottom it said "based on this e-mail" ) it just looked like an E-Mail. it's like that fucking "isn't there somebody you forgot to ask ?" meme ! large corporations rule ! got wrong item sent to me by a seller through Amazon but it was with Prime and with customer service by Amazon i called Amazon at 1 AM and they simply refunded the order no questions asked - didn't ask to return the wrong item or even to take a picture of it - said just keep it you will NEVER get service like this from a mon and pops shop truth is big corporate stores treat CRIMINALS ROBBING THEM better than a mom and pops stores treat their customers ( unless the customer is a family member or somebody they're on 1st name basis with ) unless you personally know the owner of a small business you are much better off dealing with a large corporation like Amazon with small businesses i typically have to call Visa and get money charged back that way - they never just refund your money - one time they sent me a $1,300 Eclipse Titanium subwoofer that was clearly broken before it was shipped, and it was also shipped without any packaging ( just tossed in a box ) i called the store and they said to file a claim with UPS and say that UPS broke it - so i did and got my money back that way, but it was ultimately paid for by the UPS and not the store that sent me a broken subwoofer ... or when i bought batteries for my lawn mower through Amazon from a 3rd party seller then returned them the seller wouldn't refund me after 2 months so Amazon refunded me ... small stores will NEVER JUST GIVE YOU MONEY BACK they will always try to fuck with you. at best you will get your money back from some third party like UPS or Visa. big corporate stores like Amazon or Home Depot the exact opposite - they refund you pretty much 100% of the time. one exception for me was Publix where i couldn't return something because they said without a receipt i have to return to the same store i bought it from but it was in Florida and i was driving around and i didn't even remember which Publix i bought it from ... that was disappointing ... i thought they would have one system for all their stores but they said their system only had purchases from that one store where i tried to return it. frankly i am NOT OKAY with this, but that was literally my worst return experience with a big box store, and it only happened because i couldn't remember which Orlando location i bought it from. with small stores it's pretty much always bad when you try to return. NEVER BUY FROM SMALL STORES unless it's through Amazon and Amazon is handling the customer service.
