ETFs are shitcoins. If you don't self-custody, you're not holding bitcoin. You're only interested in price go up. Bitcoin will die if everyone does the convenient thing. image

The day before the Africa Bitcoin conference in Nairobi I took the opportunity to address the women at the Satoshi Sisters Brunch organized by Charlene Fadirepo not to wait for their government to „legalize“ Bitcoin, as it’s not illegal, but to start now to use and save it. On my journeys in African countries I speak with many people and their first questions are: „is it not as scam? Is it legal?“

Bitcoin is money! Almost daily I am purchasing goods at any of over 2,000 PicknPay stores, coffee at First Light Coffee in Jeffreysbay and petrol at TotalEnergies with WiCode vouchers from @bitrefill in #SouthAfrica. Today I tested the new feature in @AQUA Wallet which allows you to directly pay the QR code from PicknPay. It worked! Thanks to the @Breez ⚡️ SDK that enables Lightning payments via swaps from @Liquid Network

In times where autocracies and oligarchs rise a neutral, uncensorable money and communication platform are needed the most. And we have them: Bitcoin and Nostr. View quoted note →

If you’re into #Bitcoin and want to feel how living on it works come to #SouthAfrica and travel along the Garden Route. You’ll find many places accepting BTC on @btcmap you can visit @BitcoinEkasi @bitcoinloxion @bitcoinwitsand purchase food, clothes, electricity and pay your municipal bills at any PicknPay. I‘m trying to visit as many places I can to incentivize the early adopter merchants to stick to accepting it. Some waiters are intimidated other cashiers seem to be totally used to it.

Dec 5 of my Nairobi journal: Waking up to BTC 102k USD, we started the day with a mini breakfast on the balcony, observing the progress on the construction site below. I messaged a friend to see if he could assist with a P2P swap BTC to KES. Afterwards, we had lunch, and surprisingly, the cleaner Sheila came by for a quick clean although this wasn’t announced and disrupted our work set up. We then went through my slides to prepare for the ‘Bitcoin for Beginners’ workshop next week, filtering what is essential and what is too much into detail and overwhelming for people. At 3:30 pm, we left for the initial meetup of queer female Bitcoiners at a coworking space in CBD. People shared their stories of being discriminated, almost banned from school, harassed and beaten up on the way to university, their families rejecting them and how females are obliged to pay “Black tax” (a monthly financial contribution to their families), but are not allowed to inherit any property and are excluded from the opportunity to get credit at a bank. It was quite moving to witness this coming together. We felt honored to have been invited to this first meeting, hoping more will follow. The meeting ended at 6:30 pm, and we headed back to our AirBnB.

I started embedding #NOSTR notes on my website instead of tweets. Nostr first.
