Real violence.
Getting punched in the mouth and punching others was a formative experience before my brain cooled lol

A man should understand violence and also carry the confidence to use it when necessary in the defense of others. That comes from experience.
Military combat experience, competitive martial arts, hell even a good bar fight or two. Young men are meant to experience violence.
