They don't have a valid argument because the reality is they were paid to make spamming easier and that's the only reason this is happening. They tried to put lipstick on a pig, making it seem like they were solving a super important technical issue, and when node runners didn't buy it they turned hostile to their own user base. I don't think an open source project has ever imploded so spectacularly.

I’m not convinced that’s true though. I still think they could be correct but awful at communicating why.
