Nostr definitely seems to favor the “somebody is in charge” concept as opposed to the nebulous cloud that is owned by everyone and no one. For better or worse, it’s working better than any other P2P network I’ve tried. IPFS is slow as hell…

IPFS can be fast enough if you don’t have to search the entire network graph for peers and are quickly connected to a limited pool of peers that are more likely to have the file (which is what would be possible in the event my followers are pinning the content)
I don’t think that’s intentional, seeing as this is the opposite of the Bitcoin philosophy, I think it was just a matter of pragmatism winning over principles. But it doesn’t have to stay that way forever, the networking stack is not written in stone, for instance Amethyst can send notes over Bluetooth in true p2p spirit.
