Because most web pages take years to load one would think it would be a good idea to launch them and switch to doing something else while they load, right? But no, you are wrong. You can't do that because browsers have decided that they won't run the JavaScript of these pages if they are not focused. So you are forced to stare at the loading screen of every web page while they load.

In my first year at a university I got a hand-me-down laptop from my g-pa. It ran on dial up. I would turn it on and go make coffee. When it was ready, I would open a browser and enter a url... Then I'd go outside with my coffee and have a cig. When I came back, the site would work pretty well. Having to go to another site would cause mild anxiety. Another cig? It's only been 10 minutes.
It's still better than installing AutoCAD on my father's PC and having the installation fail at 96% on the seventh floppy disk.
