What are you referring too? dose primal have a bug in how they handle zaps?
Given what we know know, was it ever a useful metric?
When a metric becomes a target it ceases to be a good metric.
People are spamming fake zaps to manipulate Primal's trending and zap results. Primal is working on fixing this. In the meantime, people gaming the system.

how dose someone spam a fake zaps? is there a bug in another client or are they just publishing unpaid zap receipt events?
some clients do not validate that a zap actually happened, they don't verify signatures.
Zaps are not a useful metric because there it can be gamed.

but the zap receipt is not created by the client, the LNURL server is the one to publish the zap receipt when the invoice is paid

Oh I see now, some clients are not fully parsing the bolt11 invoice to verity its actually a valid invoice
Trending on Primal won't load for me so I can't see any notes that are trending to compare. Do you know of one?

Microtipping is a cool usecase but making it centerpiece of nostr is IMO the wrong play.
Zap counts should be auxiliary, a curiosity.
Using them as engament metrics or poll votes just sets the wrong incentives.
