Thanks @jack for taking interest. It’s due to cost mainly. Costs peaked $593 USD in March when Eden was still geographically distributed and we averaged over 900 connections on each node for their respective time zones. We’ve since taken costs down, and the bills totalled $217 in the month of June. Granted there have been some issues accepting payments in the last month mainly because Eden is running on less resources, but even so new signups tanked way before that to one or two a day. We’ve got this far and we should have been able to turn things around however for me in particular work and personal life responsibilities have taken priority now more than ever, and that meant less time to code up new revenue streams in a timely manner.

This is why I’m so interested in the Sats4Files model where users pay per byte… rate-limited style. Sats4Files automatically swaps data for #bitcoin over Lightning by hiding the file’s decryption key as the Time-Locked Contract’s preimage. Micropayments under-the-hood, monthly payment accumulates. These arbitrary monthly prices may not be sustainable for relays. I’ve been working constantly on Sats4Files over the last week or two, trying to find a way to make it faster as it relies on many 32 byte elliptic curve operations. Wish me luck! 🍀
Thank you so much for running the relay. It was one of the first ones I added & Angela and yourself were always incredibly helpful. Completely understand your decision, sometimes priorities change. 🫂
