I’m not technical, and my bias/inclination is to lean towards bitcoin as money and not allowing “spam.” I almost switched to knots before going deeper and learning that 1. Filters don’t work. 2. Filters at the relay level just create private mempools which increases centralization and decreases transparency. I think I have a decent grasp on the topic and at this point i think mechanic and the filter team are just wrong and making incorrect claims about the way bitcoin works. End of the day if a transaction follows the protocol rules and pays the fees, it should be allowed. Fees are the filter.
