Bitcoin ownership is a bit like gun ownership. It’s pretty simple and straightforward, but if you don’t know what you are doing and have unsafe practices you can absolutely destroy yourself. Also you NEED to know how both of them work to protect yourself. You cannot rely on others to hold your keys to save you, just like you cannot rely on others to hold a firearm to save you. These two topics will become more and more synonymous as time goes on. If # 1, then # 2. For more reasons than just the value of # 1.
AND taking responsibility to self-manage either (money, defense) leads you to adopt a very sovereign mindset that permeates the rest of your thinking about everything
I tend to agree, but there are young and old people unprepared to handle a firearm or private keys (Bitkey could be a good middle ground there). I think it's up to a just society to make the world safe for the young and the old.

Excellent comparison!
In principle I agree, but that's not a comprehensive solution. Not everyone has you or I around to defend them. Also, I could be a quadriplegic dictating these notes with my voice for all you know.
So what is a solution? Outsourcing to government? Law enforcement? They are a good response but may not come in time. I mean, we don’t have to look too far back. Uvalde… the cops weren’t bad people, but they didn’t have the same drive to get into that room as they would have for their own blood. I’m just saying we should be making moves to bring families back together, create communities who rally together. And if you were a quadriplegic, I’d suggest your family should be making sure you survived every single day.
I agree with you about keeping families together as well. That seems to have fallen apart in the last 100 years primarily. As I see it, most bitcoiners will probably be living and traveling inside insulated bubbles combining private security and personal security. Possibly within the next 10 years. The difference between paying a local government to defend your property and paying a local security contractor will get blurry. Thanks for the well wishes on my hypothetical disability.
Maybe the top 1% will do that. But I highly doubt most will do that. I honestly think most of us are likely to be willing to take our safety and security into our own hands. Which will likely extend to our family. Inviting outsiders in is a very dangerous proposition.
You're probably already in the top 1% if you're here. I'd like to also imagine a world which is safer for everyone, but I imagine that will take much longer.

Bitcoin is freedom tech. You have the freedom to custody it any way you like. Do not be manipulated into holding Bitcoin in a manner you feel uncomfortable with. If you lose / have stolen your 24 words, thus lose all your wealth, none of these Bitcoin OGs on nostr are coming to bail you out.
As the lines between personal and private security continue to blur, the true test of freedom will be whether individuals can safeguard their own wealth and well-being without relying on intermediaries.
This highlights my point all the more. If you are securing your own seeds and you are leaving them on paper, and not putting them on high temperature steel, or using multisig with multiple backups, it’s just as bad as storing your guns insecurely.

Solid take! It all comes down to take full ownership of personal responsibility. Truth is, most don’t want to take that on, because deep down they know if something goes wrong, there is no one else to blame but yourself. Flip side; when things go well, your decisions are the primary reason
