Great points. Also, to me that 'bit' is a fraction of 'bitcoin' is a strike against using 'bit'... I'm pretty sure that borrowing 'bit' from the fact that other currencies have historically used it isn't necessarily a good thing, either.
I'm not opposed to coming with another term for 'sat', but this push to force a change is stupid. Just start using another term if you want. If it organically catches on, great! That's how language actually works... not by fiat.

Also, don't assume the opposing argument is shit. Calling Sats "Bitcoin" has merit, opening up the OP_RETURN has merit.
Just my view on both is to keep them unchanged because those arguments have greater merit.
