I've had a snake, a hamster, fish, dogs, and cats... Chickens are by far the best pets. They're entertaining, take care of bugs, fertilizing the ground, and are happy to recycle food you don't want into food you do want. And they're seriously cheap. Pro tip: don't get one of those overpriced coops for sale. If anything, buy a cheap, small shed and put some roosts in there for them to perch on at night. Then cut a hole in the side and buy a $20-$30 solar-powered chicken door that has a timer to make it an even easier setup.
