I've seen fields of yellow flowing GMO rapeseed. 🤮
Did you know that palm oil requires little processing?
Palm fruit oil (the red stuff) comes from simply pressing the fruit of the palm. It contains carotenoids which give it the red colour & vitamin E. It's been eaten by africans for thousands of years
Palm kernel oil can be extracted by cracking the seed & pressing the oil out. I'm not sure how they do it commercially (probably with heat & chemicals to neutralize odors).
Palm oil is unlike most seed oils in that it contains only 10% PUFA & 50% saturated fat.
As far as seed oils goes, it's the one I prefer. I specifically look for it if I'm buying something like corn chips. I look for the 50% saturated content of the total fat since they don't always specify palm oil on the label.
There's a lot of contraversey around palm oil specifically & the habitat destruction to plant it. I'm suspicious about this since soy, rapeseed, sunflower & cottonseed growing is far more destructive.
Once planted, a palm oil plant grows for many years producing a lot oil. It requires little care & toxic chemicals once established.
