"Are aliens real?"
"Is money real?"
How would you respond?

I always ask my 5 year old, "What does it mean for something to be real?" She doesn't have an answer yet, but maybe one day.
Sometimes I'll say, "I haven't seen one yet" with regards to unicorns, mermaids, aliens, etc.
