A small STRFRY relay is ridiculously cheap, you can turn it off and on in a split second too

I don’t know but it clearly fit on a 5$ vps. The expensive part is disk space probably. If you run it at home then you can run a decent relay for basically nothing

Pyramid can run for on a ~$1/mo VPS and a accomedate a few thousand people. If one wants to offer media/file hosting and all that along with the relay, the cost will vary by how much storage in wanted/needed.

And we have the https://nostr21.com, which costs literally only 21 sats per month. So, 1¢/month. It's not the cost. It's that many balk at the idea that they should pay at all.
