I think there something different about a note that contains photos and a photo that contains notes. But UI needs improvement and maybe a lot of clients that do both should ask the user on first post and set a default.
I think all the photos that show in the gallery on your profile should be kind 20 only. I still think attaching images to other kinds has a place though.
Interesting. I think this makes sense. because there is a difference between a photo and a meme for example.
You probably don't want to mix both or have memes show up in a profile gallery.
How confusing do you think this is to a user? the fact that they have to distinguish the two as they post? or maybe its just inherently app dependent?
I agree. I just realized that this is exactly what killed instagram.
one day someone realized that they can post a wall of text inside an image. a couple of months after, there are no normal photos, its just all memes and text walls hiding as images.
Probably different for each person what they’d want there. For me it would make total sense to have memes show in my profile gallery, as that’s primarily what I post, and probably what people are looking for if they open my gallery. But if I reply to someone else’s post with a gif or even a random meme, I don’t need that cluttering up my gallery. Or if I’m posting a screenshot of something like a settings page, or bitcoin price chart, or news headline, etc, with a text post the I also don’t want that in my gallery.
I think it would depend on how it’s presented in the UI whether it would be confusing or not. For instance, when composing a post, if you tap the image button there could be a toggle to make it an “image post” vs a “microblogging post” with a little explanation that images from microblogging posts/replies won’t show in your gallery. Seems easy enough.
On Plume I've taken a similar approach to how my images are displayed on my npub.pro page - the photo gallery displays images with the #photography hashtag only. It misses stuff and catches results which shouldn't be there occasionally, but it works. May add the other kind in there as well though, if there's sufficient reason to do so.
I just took a look at your page and yeah, loads of placeholders next to the photography hashtag - have they disappeared from wherever you were hosting them?
I do not know the Nostr kind tradeoffs well, but from a privacy angle the bigger issue is what EXIF and links clients leak, not kind numbers. Also, that tunnel cat rules.
