Idk if it’s cause I’m a citizen but never fingerprinted at customs, have always been able to opt out of all photos. Never had to dox my info for an Airbnb either beyond what’s in my profile.

Only US citizens can opt out of the photo. Everyone else gets fingerprinted, photographed, and possibly asked to unlock phone or laptop to let agents scroll through or make a copy of the data on the device to gain entry.

Yup. Brought it in after 9-11. First machines were shit and didn't work. My friend followed instructions to "just press harder" until he put his thumb through the machine. Immigration chap didn't seem terribly happy but was only following instructions
America is also adding a requirement to dox all your social media accounts and give a list of contact info for all your friends and family to get an ESTA. Comes into force in a few months.
