Oh man! I'm just testing out Yakihone and I'm seeing a whole lot of messages and notifications that weren't showing in Primal! I need to figure this out...
Thank you for sharing the music video!
These relays and caching servers don't seem to be working for me! I don't know of you can see my last reply because I can't see it 😩
Yeah as i mentioned, this is a primal-issue. Now because they recently implemented a remote signer function, you can use primal to log into other apps and be free from their silly design choices. I still use primal for their search function from time to time, because its good.
Unlike Primal, Yakihonne (and amethyst and slowely more and more other apps) uses what we started calling the ''outbox model''. Its a simple system/idea:
You declare to the world to what relays you post your stuff (your outbox);
You declare to the world what relays you keep and eye on to fetch/read stuff (your inbox).
If i want to see your post (for example because i follow you), my app just automatically looks at your outbox relays;
If i want to make sure you see what i post (for example a reply to your post), my app automatically sends it to your inbox relays.
thats it. The creator of Nostr always had in mind for things to work like this, but never was explicit about it (he assumed it was obvious), so it took a while for the eco-system to catch on hahaha.
Primal, mainly for reasons to ensure a ''smooth''/fast/consistent experience, chose to instead of using relays to fetch things, to use a big proxy server (what they call a caching server). So whether you see or dont see things depends on whether stuff made it to that caching server; a lot of stuff doesnt. As i mentioned earlier, Primal does connect to relays when you post things, so me, not using primal, can see all your stuff just fine; its mostly the primal users themselves that tend to miss a bunch of stuff from time to time. Luckely you are not stuck with them, and all your stuff is available right there in other clients :).
Goodluck
Are in and outbox synonymous with read and write?
Yes! indeed they are :) Good catch
Just trying to get my terms straight. Thanks
inbox is where you check for things to you, outbox is where you put things on their way out
Yeah, which I got confirmation is the same as read and write. It makes sense, just wasn't explicitly known to me. I'm finally beginning to learn a bit more about the plumbing, after a bit over a year of just being a simple user :)
Thank you for all of that.
Primal is very slick and has the signer and wallet includesd so it seems it would be a great place for people to start out with Nostr.
What a shame...
It is a great place for people to start out with Nostr, and because they recently added the signer i am comfortable again to suggest it to newcomers, because it makes it easy for them to move to other apps hahaha
