How gay buzz is for both

Clearly nostr botched DMs with now some 5 competing "standards". I wish, all clients would for the sake of compatibility just keep nip4 at least as a fall-back. The fact that you can DM people from clients that experiment with new ways of sending DMs traps people feeling not heard.

subjective WoT - from your point of view and under your control - will do the opposite of kill nostr. it solves all the problems in this thread with no downside (since you can always choose to not use it or adjust it at will; you are the center of your own trust) what do you think is dangerous about WoT?

Try creating a new pubkey today and get it to amass the followers you already have today without cheating. Alternatively, put yourself in the shoes of a legitimate new user who isn’t in your WoT: How would this user get to interact with you, exactly?

1. Maybe amassing followers is the wrong goal. 2. Why would you want to interact with random new users? The real answer is that they would first have to gain credibility in some other WoT, probably starting with people they actually know IRL. You know, like before there was social media?

why would i expect a random identity to be trusted by people who trust me, barring me signalling in some way that it's connected to me? ..well, i could follow it myself.. which _would_ bump its credibility among people who trust me already. this seems exactly right to me. a "legitimate" new user should pretty quickly get close to my personal web of trust, if that new user is acting in such a way that my network appreciates. and if they're not acting in a way i appreciate, then they're nearly indistinguishable from spam, or something like it. which is exactly what we're trying to avoid, no? besides, i could always just disable my wot temporarily, and go right back to the state we're in now - and i'd see that new user. i really can't understand the problem here..

We have tried whitenoise 3 times with a couple of my friends (5). We are techies. Group chat didn't work. Not once. In our opinion it is a case of popularizing a pre-alpha software as beta, which erodes faith in such abstract new technologies that we can't even debug ourselves because of its complexity. Honestly, bitmessage protocol with randomx PoW algorithm would be enough for all nostritches to communicate among us with insane amounts of privacy.

It's simple and naive but not bullshit. Rather than pushing whitenoise as the new standard, let's make sure we signal with every account which standar is supported.

Bots don't attack devs.. So you'll never probably see them @npub1qqqq...n47m Wot is not just one thing. Its invites, its payments, its nip05s its on-boarding. All stuff needs to be worked on. But you just keep being annoyed by the words.. While we watch even the people that are "first" have left because they couldn't control their experience on nostr and were chased away by purposeful bad actors.

it's their right to do so. this is the nature of freedom of association - a concept that humans are familiar with, but traditional social networks are actively hostile towards, for "platform reasons". imagine if you couldn't use your natural web of trust in your IRL life, and were forced to associate with everyone all the time even if you desired to limit it to your preferred community?
