Okay so. As some of you might’ve noticed, I had to redownload the whole #bitcoin blockchain (what other blockchains are there lol). Because I had messed up for some reason, I figured the easiest thing to do was starting all over. Unlike the first time, back in 2024, I noticed that it was taking ages to download. So I tried to adjust a few settings here and there… which of course caused the process to restart again 🤦‍♂️. I noticed those changes hadn’t really took the desired effect (which was faster downloads of course). As of today, it had been synchronizing for 5 days and it wasn’t even halfway! This afternoon, I took some advice from fellow noderunners and again tweaked some settings, restarted the download once again. Only to notice it was even worse, after 4 hours it was somehow still calculating the Block height. 😤 So, Impatient as I am, I said fuck it! (I mean, I waited 5 days already 🤷🏼‍♂️) Fuck it, let’s start over, once again. I watched a tutorial from @BTC Sessions (thx for your content 👊🏻 ) to make sure I wasn’t overseeing anything too. Then I’ve uninstalled all Bitcoin related apps, those were quite a few 😅. Finally uninstalled the Bitcoin Node app, turned off my Umbrel device and switched it back on again (IT people would love it lol) and reinstalled the Bitcoin Node app. Now, it only took a few minutes to calculate the Block height and currently we’re at 1.03% or Block 223302 of 932152 blocks. I know the first half or so should be quicker than the last part, but still, I have a good feeling about this. LFG ✌🏻 #bitcoin #NOSTR #node #btc #noderunner #core #umbrel @Umbrel ☂️ image

I bought an Umbrel myself about a year and a half ago. The first app I installed was Bitcoin Core; it took less than 24 hours to sync with a standard Telenet subscription. But I hadn't installed any other apps that interact with Bitcoin Core. From what I've read, it looks like it will be fine (soon) :-) I love the convenience that Umbrel, or Start9, offers; it's much better than running it on a separate pc. fyi, I'm currently running Bitcoin Knots. Good luck!!
There will also be some variability depending on who is serving you blocks…some nodes are really slow (like home nodes on poor connections).
yeah that shit takes ages. your hardware is calculating if it‘s all the correct blocks. it‘s resource intensive.
no. it should be computing and therefor verifying if the blocks are really THE real blocks of the network. compare how fast you should be able to download some big file (movie) with your current internet speed.
