So I watched The Rip. A Miami cop movie with Affleck and Damon. I liked the first half quite a bit. Really intense opening scene, good mystery setup, high emotional stakes, etc. Always happy to see Affleck and Damon together. The second half lost me a bit. Some aspects seemed unrealistic enough to distract me and pull me out of it. And I felt the heavy hand of the writers/director in terms of character choices not really making sense, convenient scene changes, etc. But, all together a solid cop movie. Glad I watched it. So far out of this recent run of movies, Sinners is comfortably my top choice even though I had some issues in the third act. image

Saw this as well. Good entertainment but too many annoying unrealistic things happening. Distracting.
I feel like every movie or series these days is a struggle in the final third. Haven’t seen this one though.

I’ll have to check this one out. Interested to get your take on Weapons when you get to it
To me Hollywood executives have booted out any creative talent in favor of go along to get along. We need more Clint Eastwoods out there who refuse to put up with their shit. I wonder whats going on with all these high-end actors doing commercials now days. They'll loose me forever if they start doing vaccines commercials.
It’s not about talent anymore, it’s all about keeping people engaged while they are on their tiny screens interrupted by whatever is going on around them. Netflix literally tells directors where the films drop audiences and they have to figure out how to cut them to retain viewers. The old days of everyone going to a movie theater to give a film undivided attention are gone.

Is it weird I read that first sentence as "It's not about telnet anymore"
I enjoyed the second half! Mainly because during the first half I was a bit annoyed that the plot might end up as (imho) a shallow ‘Ben and Matt are on opposites sides of morality! And now must fight to the death!’ Curious what you thought was the biggest unrealistic aspect?
Might I recommend Caddo Lake. One battle after another is good too but I assume you’ve seen it
