I find it increasingly hard to rationalize what we see here. Clearly they can’t *all* be blackmailed / paid-off, which leaves the disturbing possibility there is a sizeable body of the judiciary that actually believes in this stuff. Which is scarier than the presumption they’re all compromised.
All fair and fine points. Personally, I attribute most to cowardice and a thirst for a particular type of sadism: they enjoy being puppetmasters.
