Don't get me wrong, i am not praying for the apocalypse (or am I), but what if ''the web'' just starts to break down and crumble under the pressure of hacks and exploits. Are "we" ready? Can we say 'sorry your favorite platforms are down or unreliable for whatever reason, sorry things happened to your account and/or content.....here is something that was better to begin with but also just works' What if it was never about us winning a popularity contest, what if our job is to ensure we are the last survivor?

Are "we" ready? Of course not, no one is "ready". But yes, I would agree, the key is to be the last survivor. In an apocalypse, everything breaks down, including much of the bitcoin infrastructure. Its about who can emerge first/strongest from the rubble to fill the vacuum.

definitely not, nos.lol and relay.primal.net won't support millions of new users

well...guess there are three things here: In principle there is no need for them to support millions of new users in the first place, due to how Nostr works; Scaling a relay to support millions of users is not rocket science, servers are a completely solved problem in general; No comment on whatever it is Primal is doing, in a way i hope their stuff just breaks down.
@Constant Big AI is releasing models and employing "hackers" (agents) to undermine all human developers and push for AI regulation that tosses open source models out of the market. Then they can conquer the whole internet by hacking every human built website and forcing everyone to buy government regulated AI models to protect themselves from the AI hacker models built by the very same companies. It's all one big racket. I think Nostr is in a great position and may just become the alternative internet backed by encrypted relays that AI has not yet the ability to hack. Now how to build a mesh relay network that doesn't rely on ISPs in order to connect 🤔...

" Now how to build a mesh relay network that doesn't rely on ISPs in order to connect 🤔... " If you want something that closely resembles the internet as it is today, then you can't. Neither in terms of reach (global), nor bandwidth. The amount of infrastructure out there in terms of viber cables and specialized network servers is beyond non-trivial. Its like saying ''how can we dig this massive hole without any industrial machines'', while all you have access to is a spoon. This was partly a choice though, they could have laid redundant interconnected fiber instead of the hub-and-spoke stuff we have now, atleast in certain areas like for instance here in the Netherlands. This country by itself could have bascially been one giant super computer as a result. There even were voices at the time (late 90s) to do this, but alas. I don't think the pipes are that much of a problem though, but yes i tend to agree with your assessment of what the angle is in terms of banning the open models and maffia protection money the rest of the world.
An avalanche begins with a single snowflake. I can see everyone's bluetooth device becoming a relay. Individuals can get paid to host encrypted content (that they can't read or tamper with) that's checksummed and relayed to other clients/hosts. Maybe even with a protocol that has a wider radius than bluetooth. Relay towers if you will. This could be a crucial tool to connect regions of the world disconnected by war or censorship. I'm sure the collective will figure it out soon. I'm doing my part. God's speed to you.
