Don't be gaslight into thinking NostrHub.io doesn't work or is centralized by the same people that are always butthurt on this protocol. You know who they are. It's exhausting. If you're not a default expert, that's fine. This just means you haven't put in the work and commented on and wrote NIPs from the old GitHub profile. That's where that original expert list came from. But we should be able to choose our own experts, right? It's an open protocol after all. How do you become an expert? You can add yourself as an expert in settings. You can even remove the current default list! Then, you can visit the community NIPs section and begin approving anything from your point of view that needs to be approved. Full Web-of-Trust. Working as intended. Look mom, I'm an expert! image

Why would anyone use something that is supposed to liberalize spec publishing, that is "expert"-gated, just like the GitHub repo is? That was _precisely_ what we were trying to solve for by moving it to Nostr, but you just transferred the same structure to json. Embrace. Extend. Extinguish. I can't even manage to make a surprised face about this stuff, anymore. Whatever, I have my own client and now pollerama also offers a viewer. You do you.

Stupid, shortsighted and childishly naive. The only adjectives i can think of to describe this opinion of yours.
To those of you who are pro gatekeeping and centralization by committee, you've completely missed the whole point of innovation. The same people who don’t want to open nostr protocol are the very same people who tend to reject adopting the latest forward thinking tools. You can try to delete and shut down those of us who are quietly in the background grinding out productive matter that actually delivers. Those of you who just talk hot air, continuously gatekeep and deliver shit which collapses as soon as it’s out the door, you can kiss my ass. I stopped posting here a while ago because i just realized, it wasn't worth my time. At the end of the day, this is your final warning. We’ll wipe you on the floor when RSI eats your lunch and you won’t see the tsunami coming, because you couldn’t be bothered to keep up with the times.
Angry people that have been butthurt for years because they think they're being excluded, when no one is excluded them. They just like to feel that way to use their own perceived rejections to fuel their own development. It's a terrible way to live and work, but it's what they do. If you think you're the underdog, you'll work harder I guess? But the kicker is that all of us here are the underdogs 😂
I'm glad someone else sees it this way. Yes, dumb stuff has happened on the NIPs repo, but the complainers just seem to want an excuse to fail. I self-sabotage regularly, but stubbornly refusing to participate in the process is next level.
Uh……unless nostrhub has completely changed since last fall, the principle behind it is very meta —- effectively Its decentralizing nostr nips across the nostr network You use nostrhub or any fork of it to publish custom nips across any set of Relays to promote your custom nip. People can up vote your proposal and last i checked Comment or zap a nip proposal You can also fork it and use it anyway you want.
I feel like there's a broader context that I'm not aware of. Like what's the history here. Who are the players. Why does it seem like there are in-crowd devs and out-group devs and what, if any, are the philosophical differences that led to that schism. What are the major software projects that help color in the picture better.
it's apathy or jealously from people that don't get funding, people that see others traveling and aren't able to do it themselves, people seeing relationships and connections being made and aren't able to do it themselves. it's really sad and it's been a theme for three years. most people just ignore them. most devs cringe about it privately. many laugh and think they're being silly. it's just dumb and im tired of saying it's not.
This is a newer version, with a preset "meritocracy" list filtering the landing page and discussions. Some of the people on the list didn't know they were on the list and some of them are barely active anymore, but they are from the GitHub repo. You can change to your own preferred "experts" or simply delete them all, but changing it only effects what _you_ see. Everyone else unwittingly sees the filtered version. (You also have to manually change the settings to include your own relay list.) The idea of porting the NIPs to Nostr is largely mine. That's why so many NIPs have been available on the wiki 30818s, since early 2024. Our own specs were stuck in permanent PR on GitHub, so we eventually gave up and moved them over to Nostr, as well. That is why they are listed on the GitHub kind list, but the link goes to wiki events. And that is why they have NKBIP-11 identifiers, instead of NIP-11 identifiers. They told us at the time that the number of NIPs is hard-capped to 2 digits, so that they didn't have any free numbers to give us, but that they could add us to the kind list to prevent kind number collisions. After we gave up and closed our PRs, they merged NIP-A1. Okay. Then someone (Alex?) came up with a new "wiki spec" kind 30817 and republished them all there. My client has generic cards, for unknown kinds, so I could see the activity and figured out that there was a new wiki kind. I started republishing our specs to that kind and implemented it in my own app. I didn't know about the new filter on their client, at first. I overlooked the change. I was just confused by the stuff I was seeing and not seeing, as it was suddenly less relevant to me, and started fiddling with the settings. We have lost so many new devs, struggling to publish specs someplace someone might see them and get constructive feedback. This seems like a step backward, to me, and it's a bit depressing to see. But it's not my app. I'm pointing out that there are now alternative apps. I hope the number of apps rendering this kind grows, so that the protocol remains welcoming to independent developers.
You've missed the point, Derek. She has every right to complain. You not seeing that is a significant part of the problem You really are singing a different tune these days. It's sad to see. Oh well. I'll be over in my little corner of nostr helping build the other stuff that's eventually going make a difference.
Actually incorrect. You've when just I followed Stella. She's been kept out of the NIP discussions, blocked and muted by most of the supposed experts, and berated for daring to want to discuss his a lot of people want to make things more complicated and less open. You are starting to really show a lot of hypocrisy. Statung facts isn't a crime. Y'all just don't like being held up to a higher standard or even your own standard. Lame.
Frustrated people not invited to the table then actively excluded. For years. Why wouldn't someone be frustrated at that point? For a supposed ethos of "nostr is for plebs" that had been decided non-pleb friendly.
That's patently false, considering that those complainers have followed every arbitrary rule and then were still shut out. That's the typical hypocrisy that has come to define the gatekeeping of the NIP repo and other issues. Basically, you have never had to try to get a seat at the table. And, on top of that, y'all have refused to extend that table out of petty spite. Weak losers do that.
Stella is apathetic? That's one of the dumbest things you've ever noted on nostr, Derek. Stella is the antithesis of apathy. If she was apathetic, then she wouldn't be rightfully "complaining" the same group of people for the same thing for years. Man, wtf is wrong with you? You've changed, and not in a good way.
Yes. Those follow sets on certain clients are also filled with noubs that haven't been active or only zapfarm on rare occasion. It's super lame and it amuses me to no end that this is one of the biggest reasons for the churn on nostr, along with no real centralized algorithmic boosting (though you can consider the blatant artificial blacklisting of certain npubs on primal a symptom of this) to promote the thots and bots that drive most of the revenue from ads on the big platforms. The good thing is that none of that is sustainable without big money coming in, especially with how unproductive those types are. Running around the jungle shirtless as a primary vocation might seem cool, but, it isn't gonna be possible to do that long term without becoming a bigger ball gargler.
I gave up. I just don't know if I'll ever have the self-discipline needed to keep that up. This is going to kill me off way too early, but, there's no real reason for that to matter at this point. Been fighting weather to get stuff done outside. I'm officially semi-retired now. Been reloading, finally. I find that supremely satisfying.
All good. It was never mandatory, nothing is. I’m so busy home building and doing yard work that my daily exercise seems redundant. I like to lift stuff and move stuff - that’s a workout. Example, just got 2 tons of river rock for my wife’s rockery project - guess who’s moving it!?! image
Good. Let them addle their brains and compromise their souls even more. Long term, this is only a good thing, when if it is annoying to deal with now.
Man, that's not a good excuse to not have the benefit of a good partner in your life. Nearly nothing is better, if you're picky enough.
A ton of this rock is roughly 3 cubic feet, I guessed I’d need more, can always use it somewhere. 2 tons was $40 so not overly worried
Thanks. Just planted a few around that old oak tree. All native flowers. Some are ground creeping. I’ll be growing more in my greenhouse later to transplant around the yard. Just renovated this property so only just getting round to yard work. It’s a process!
Seems like you're deflecting they participated in the process. And continually deployed based on the advise in the PR. by counter proposals what are you referring to? Also this is in direct contradiction to Derek own podcast nip (which I am in favor of and do use).
true. maybe 2 tons isn't as much as i thought. there has to be a number of tons + heat/humidity settign that you start second guessing nuptials.
ill try… derek, who is a very nice and sincere guy, has a elitist hierarchical mindset that he is blind to because his life meaning is attached to it.
me personally, i wouldn't have the first clue how to bump into a woman that doesn't make me want to scream at her about what a superficial, moronic twit she is. basically, this seems to be the equation: if <girl lives in the West> then <retarded brainwashed social media drone cultist>. i've given up on it. i live out in the middle of nowhere and have zero social groups because every time i get involved with some group it turns out to be yet another nutbag cult where i have to worship some bullshit to get the girl to pay attention to me. so, i can't be fucked. i'm 50 now and the only way i see it happening for me is if i'm living in some wild place where there's barely electricity and the women there are actually paying attention to something further away than the phone in their hand.
Couldn’t really care less who makes what list, its an artificial construct that carries no weight if no users and no execution quality. But that being said, i did manage to get one commit into the original github repo Ideas are cheap. Delivery matters.
So did I. Neither of us are on the list. It's a very short list. 😂 We're all just using our own apps, now. Everyone using his, without adjusting the settings, gets the prechewed version and that's on them.
i'll be 40 soon and i'm coming to the conclusion that at a certain age we are just way to stuck in our ways to compromise with anyone else. it's hard to find right age, interests, etc and then layer on top of that someone who isn't addicted to phone or will be able to change habits. i witnessed my mom in her 70s follow my father's advice to use her phone less. She was getting Reeled in by youtube. She followed it to my amazement. he still reads books, so maybe it's easier to listen to someone who follows his own advice. however, i have more doubt about my peers. are we able to follow someone else's advice to get rid of bad habits? i'd have to get rid of my own before expecting someone to get rid of theirs. i have another theory about men who build things... i think women are attracted to men with calloused hands. a friend said "no they are attracted to earning potential". definitely the ones worth attracting would be more of the former--but then we would have to build something. i don't know if paper airplanes or model trains count.

Your attitude toward the more competent devs has certainly changed for the worse.
yeah, engineers are hot. why do you think that the most common name is "smith" i just don't worry about it. i figure i'm just in the wrong place. time to move again. somewhere "civilization" hasn't compromised fully yet.
