this is the results of the evildoings of catfood manufacturers putting starchy, unnatural, non-cat-food things into cat food. half the stuff i see either is full of carrots and peas or the "meat" is actually soy protein. the cats do not like the soy (they lick the gravy and leave most of the soy behind) and if the food has vegetables in it, it bloats up their gut because they have almost no enzymes to decompose starches. my cat has developed a podgy belly since 3 months of these "no grain" (but vegetables) foods. he's now on a strict diet of beef mince and whatever other random meat, plus occasional treats to lick the lid of the yogurt container, which he very much likes. the only thing that is ok to feed to cats that isn't meat, is yeast extract, and they love that shit

this poor guy, also, is likely to barely make it to like 8 years, and probably will need insulin injections daily, if he doesn't already.
