So what does this do? What should I do? I always wanted a place that wasn’t x or reddit to discuss and share. Who do I follow to learn more about using this kind of social media? Where do I find people of general interest in this space? I don’t have any socials to connect with this so I’m starting blank. #Socialmedia #Damus #noob

Post and use hashtags accordingly. Follow those who reply and check out who they follow. Search hashtags of interest and follow those and you'll find people with similar interests. Nostr was built by people who see bitcoin as a beacon of uncorruptibility which is hope for a new and better system. If not a bitcoiner, dont be put off by it and the occasional toxocity, rather, try a little curiosity follow a few people who try to explain it well and see what you conclude. Recommend finding some good humour too!
Thank you for taking a little time to explain this to me. Yeah I just recently stopped viewing bitcoin as money and investment. I don’t what makes a bitcoiner? I own btc? I talk about it, I search for more info and communities that are about it, I try find out as much as possible and how I can implement these things into my life. Do I pass the bar? I dont know, but that is what lead me to this space.
Not sure theres a bar to pass, just a learning curve and discussion with people on how to create a better future for all. A bitcoiner should simply be someone who thinks its a part of tgat future
Then you can count me in. Sounds so cliche to just want better for everyone, but I really do. I can’t contribute much and that’s where I’m a little but stuck, I feel very much like a consumer, I want to be on the creating part of things. I study maritime IT technology, so I might find myself in a position where I can contribute in future.
Welcome to nostr! Follow some people that you find interesting, and follow hashtags to liven up your feed. Interact with folks, post about your interests. If you are using #damus you are fully in control of what you see!
Welcome to nostr! Check out http://nostr.band to discover popular notes and users, might give you some people to follow. It also has a search engine that might make it easier for you to find topics you're interested in.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Onboarding for new users has improved a bunch in many clients but it's not always easy to understand everything :) A lot of people use the #askNostr hashtag when asking questions, might make it easier to get answers!
For content/accounts to follow, I recommend just going into people's follow lists and hit the "Follow all" button, if your client has it. Or find a client that has it, do that, then switch back to the client you like better in general. That's the beauty of Nostr, the ability to switch apps and clients (almost) seamlessly. (Stuff may break sometimes, but it's generally fine).
Thanks, I have found a few so I got a starting point now. I’m using Damus now, there were so many options so I just picked one, I haven’t tested any other clients. I really like that it follows me thought apps, just figured out how to use it in my browser.
I never used to post anything, I always felt like «the dead internett» theory was somewhat true, at least content wise. But I see a lot of interaction here so I should probably add some post of my own. Damus indeed. Thanks I didn’t know I could follow hashtags, thats nice!
I don't know of such a list myself but I qouted your note with a question, we'll see if someone else knows about it
Welcome! I’m still trying to figure this out myself. I think a good place to start is to share and interact. Reply to posts you find interesting. And I don’t think your wallet is connected, tried to zap your post.
As for social media, this platform seems pretty damn chill. Having one identify that can follow you through apps and services, this is how online identity should’ve been done from the get go. I was trying to look up fellow country men when I found you, musician producer, easy follow. Well shit and thank you! It’s the thought that counts. Yeah I just got ably up and running, but I don’t think it’s «online». My iPhone decided to brick itself during update so I cannot access my funds and transfer the required sats to open a lightning channel. Going to be at least week before it’s up.
I agree. Totally chill, and not that addictive. Would like to see more Norwegians here, but I’m fine with being early. If there’s not enough interesting here, I can just log off and touch grass instead. Also think nostr and v4v is much better for most musicians wanting to share their content. What type of music do are you into?
Might get a little addictive if one starts to receive sats here and there, I saw some people claiming they were able to buy lunch and coffee couple times a week. I will have to check out v4v, as for nostr I agree sharing musical content might be a good idea as it’s not super saturated like all the other platforms. The type that fits my current mood, it’s broad. Mostly I just play guitar to any tune, rock and blues, instrumental stuff. Been dabbling for a few year with production, hiphop, dance, edm type stuff. Any type of psy-genre. I don’t share my music, I don’t think it’s listenable, very critical of what I do. But I tried up to see if you had some music online, but that username of yours is somewhat famous. Related?
I’ve been working as a professional musician for many years, in many genres. Primarily as a keyboard player on recordings. Different Norwegian artists and bands, pop rock etc. I have also worked with classical music as a singer. Now I mainly teach vocal arts and production, and work some as a classical ensemble singer and producer (primarily live production). I also have an interest in recording and digital music production, but time is limited. Especially when you have kids… 😅
Welcome home ! Did you post to #introductions already? anyways with a few exemptions the discovery is still purely on users in Nostr. I had great success of finding my peeps like this: scroll through a hashtag a day, till i find 1-2 interesting profiles, follow and look through their follow list. I found a bunch of fellow artists this way. Also, comment on posts and start a conversation yourself. Before you make some connections just tag people you are interested to interact with in your post. I’d say people answered my posts about 90% of times including some “big public figures” though must say @Knut Svanholm ∞/21M still didn’t answer to accept a present 🎁 🤓 Have fun, ask questions and help others out once you know your way around:)
