All of the regulation, permissions, and government bureaucracy I am learning about really makes me doubt how different the U.S. economy is from an economy like China's. On the outside it looks all free and capitalistic, but as soon as you try and start a business you learn real quick on how anti-capitalistic it all is.

Amen brother. The bureaucratic state needs to be dismantled
The US abandoned capitalism in 1971. The fiat monetary system is a communist monetary system built on consumerism. You can't have captialism without "captial," but the propoganda creates the illusion of capitalism.
Then you must learn that many yound entrepreneur with startup are leaving Europe and Switzerland for US because it's much easier to leverage fund and start there than in their own country, you can imagine how bad Europe is.
