Previous shoot down rates were even higher, something like 95% There's been a few changes, one of which was reconfiguring drones to fly at much higher altitudes. This makes them easy to track on radar, which is why they didn't do that before. But with much higher numbers of drones it tips the balance as it makes shooting them down with machine guns much harder. Thats why so much investment has been made into interceptor drones. Both one time use FPV drones, and more recently, multiple use drones that use shotgun shells to take out the engines.
