#Google looked at the fact that people can use Android without ever needing to link their entire devices to a Google Account which is just a fansy way of saying Google ID, and thought.. well.. time to end sideloading by requiring developers to register to new platform submit their #government ID and pay a fee as well (i know right!🖕), link all the IDs of their apps so then their apps can be sideloaded to Android by users
This is not about security, this is about ending people ability to not be linked, I have set up people's devices to be more private and secure without ever needing a Google account, in fact I told people.. many people I met.. you don't need to have a Google account just so you can download apps
I used #Fdroid, @Zapstore and Aurora, enabled private DNS with Mullvad, used #DuckDuckGo Tracking Protection (it takes the #VPN slot), disabled all telemetry settings and sometimes i even deboat their ROMs with Adb.. It makes their phones usable (no on screen ads), less bloated, less power hungry.. people often ask me? well what about my Gmail account or Yahoo or whatever? Here's the solution: Fairmail
with this upcoming change, even if the user turns on: allow installing from unknown sources, their sideloaded app will not install because the developer hasn't verified themselves with Google and paid them for the privilege to do so 🙄🤬😾, the Os will just refuse to install it
This can be mitigated with a custom ROM, but c'mon how many people have the technical know how? I'm a nerd and LineageOS wiki still scares me..
Also, custom ROM support is slowly fading in the Market, Evil companies like #Samsung and #Xiaomi go out of their way to lock the boatloader.. and completely remove alternative OS support

grapheneOS?
Totalitarianism
My fear is that after this is implemented they will ban for example all E2E messaging apps if they don't leave a backdoor. I'm running GrapheneOS myself which should be immune to this at least as long as Google doesn't pull the plug from the AOSP but it's not a solution to the masses.
Ruby I’m not a dev and GrapheneOS could not be easier. So easy, in fact, that the first time I thought I had done something wrong. Still have this iPhone for work, but the real deal is on GOS. Try it.
+1 GrapheneOS, been using it for 3+ years. Hat tip to "Side of Burritos" on YouTube
Google has basically full control over the operating system. If they decide to change terms, which certainly seems to be the case, there's sadly no decentralized app store to fix that
The only solution I see is to fully push Linux phone OS and make it usable. Additionally, attract major companies to develop Linux apps for their services.
Every new phone someone in your family or circle of friends buys should be at least running Lineage. Better Graphene.
If that's not the case you should ask yourself what kind of friend you are.
We retreated from other people's lives as if it is not our business whilevconglomerates and statists stepped in.
As soon as someone is communicating with youbit is your fucking business to make it as secure and private as you can.
