I don't know how assets can even be owned, when no one has jobs. If we all get AI-ABI, we'd all have the same income. Where does the money to purchase assets then come from? Savings? So we make the current wealth disparities permanent?
Or do assets just become worthless as a savings vehicle and we just divvy them up amongst the populace by who is most favored by the government?
I mean, we could argue that we _already_ divvy them up that way...

I think the argument would be: that if you have ABI, why do you need savings or assets? And why would you need to own anything?
Because some things are truly scarce.
How do you determine who gets to hang a Picasso in their house, have waterfront property on Lake Austin, marry the most beautiful girl, or use season tickets to the Ravens stadium, gain entry to the Taylor Swift concert or the antique Alpine gondala, without some sort of trade?
People need to learn how to sacrifice. Do I go out for brunch? Or do I buy Bitcoin? Do I go on vacation or do I buy Bitcoin? Do I buy new computer stuff or do I buy Bitcoin? Do I buy new clothes or do I buy bitcoins? Should I sell my car? So I don't have an insurance payment, so I can buy Bitcoin.
Its not that hard
Oh, I totally agree with you
I'm just saying that those pushing for UBI and those who would implement it do not care about people being able to have ownership of anything, let alone trade or save.
A large chunk of society has severe goal metric substitution with money. Any scheme to solve problems that starts with the application of money or measures success in money raised or spent is a victim of this mentality.
Don't ask how much was spent or raised helping the homeless. Ask how many meals or nights in beds were provided.
The same rules apply to any minimum income subsidy or welfare. The same rules apply to your life and budget. The assets are the real goal so the assets need to be your real measure.
Well all assets would get repriced right. If there is no demand for an asset then it loses it's value. If people become too poor relative to oil prices they start burning wood again.
I would imaging there would be some sort of savings taxation that would force a redistribution like they do with inheritance in the US already. It's almost not worth inheriting things for the amount of legal bs you have to deal with. I know enough people who are content with just letting the 500 acre farm estate get reclaimed by the state because no one in the family wants to deal with inheriting. There are so many horrible land hacks to compensate but it's still a nightmare and everyone loses in the long run.
Don't worry about AI-UBI. Elon is making things up. Notice that he has to hire like crazy to build his AI Utopia.
Some assets are prime, tho, and maintain their value even if they become untradeable. We used to solve that with war and duels and stuff, right?
Money was our system for not having to fight to the death over every nice piece of real estate, pretty girl, or clean water source.
It's already been decided. I get to marry the most beautiful girl. You can have the season ticket to the Ravens and burn the Picassos for all I care.
Also owning Lake front property in Texas is like owning a ski chalet in Egypt.
Not wanting to paint everything black here but I think the solution (the powers that be emvision) has been laid out already in 2020. The book(let) is called the great reset, the prominent sentence is "You will own nothing, and you will be happy". Just that they changed leadership does not mean they changed plans.

Don't we still? Petro dollar and all? I mean it looks way different but I think Europe has always appears to be supportive of the US bombing the middle east for the last 50 years or fighting communism or whatever is going on in Ukraine.
>Money was our system for not having to fight to the death over every nice piece of real estate, pretty girl, or clean water source.
Was it just money though? Because I also am not sure that's changed? The government just uses twitter now to claim something and then points an icbm at the nation's capital. I mean hell tariffs and embargoes are still used as leverage how many millennia has it been now?
I mean maybe smaller communities aren't firing cannon balls into the nearest castle but that could be a feature of a small communities becoming world powers.
I would think the only prime asset is still natural resources. What makes Ukraine and so much of Europe historically valuable is the land right? I mean that's what they always told us in school lol
That's what I meant in the OP by assets already being divvied up politically. That applies on a larger and smaller scale.
If you get a job working for a big corp or the gov, making $250k, then you might get the pretty girl and the house on the lake, but why did you get that job? Was it always merit? Mostly nepotism and politics, right, like in the medieval ages.
So, does eliminating income entirely just double-down on this effect and entrench it deeper?
So you mean like remove the money component and what's left? Ahh I see...
How is this even a question? 🙃
Everyone gets some amount of AI-ABI .. but how much of their UBI people decide to spend on the assets (as opposed to savings and other things) is different and for them to decide.
No big difference coompared to now IMO.
Graeber's "Bullshit Jobs" will proliferate (more), and the UBI movement will fail to displace the "welfare" bureaucracy.
Government favour as key to success, as you said, but with some oligarchs retaining some autonomy, and their own retinues.
But only for as long as intra-elite conflicts don't destroy the datacenters. Everything is Hormuz now, unless everything is North Korea, first.
