Katahdin hair sheep finishing 4th grazing of the pastures
The sheep have grazed the last of the yurt pasture, it lasted them 17 days instead of the expected 15. Good to see there is enough food for them to slow down the pace this late in the season.
This pasture has the most fruit trees and perennials planted on the swales and we are still excluding the sheep from them. On the next pass, which will be the last of the season, I am going to experiment with letting them graze amongst the trees.
This was the first full pasture they have been able to graze after culling the fence jumping ewe that was causing trouble. It's amazing the difference it made removing the problem sheep. The flock is grazing each paddock more evenly, not testing the fence, and moving through the pasture at the intended pace. They completed this 4th pass of the pastures in 37 days which is pretty much back on track for this time of the season. The two previous loops were way too fast due to the one ewe pushing out of the fence leading the flock into the next paddock early.
