If the aesthetic of the tree doesn’t matter. I’d say cut branches down to let more light through. But if it provides a dense shade, it can be tough. Though I personally don’t have experience with them, I’ve read elderberries handle shade well.

Id have to guess the tree won’t last though this decade as we just had to have one removed last year… as are most in the neighborhood are gone now too…
