Good news, my new song is out! Bad news, it’s another example of why we NEED decentralized platforms as independent artists.
I was supposed to drop my new track ‘rainbows (i saw her in green)’ feat. nostr:npub17yemy3hswcelmcdgjsfn4sns4wr4q5ptvj5h08qt4s7fy2qe3hdqsczs99 today March 14, but thanks to DistroKid’s broken distribution system, it’s nowhere to be found. I set the release date for March 14, uploaded it well in advance, and even saw that date reflected in my Spotify artist page. But guess what? DistroKid arbitrarily changed the release date to March 15 without explanation.
I reached out to support, and instead of taking responsibility or giving me a real answer, they sent a generic response linking to FAQs. This is the kind of nonsense that happens when you rely on centralized platforms that treat artists like afterthoughts.
I love what we are building here because I actually own my music and my connection with listeners. No delays. No middlemen arbitrarily deciding when (or if) my music goes live. And when people listen, I get paid directly—no waiting months for payouts or fighting for literal scraps from streaming services.
If any of you have good experiences with other distributors, let me know. I’m so grateful for this community and the chance to have my music heard on my OWN terms.
