It doesn't matter who was on reddit the design of up & down votes with nesting comments is the problem.

If it was a bad design it wouldn't have worked so much better than any other design before or since.
It didn't work better if it did then other sites would have done it but no site after reddit did it because they all know voting up & down is a waste of time & only encourages grievance. To each their own opinion.
