Blue XMas (To Whom it May Concern) by Miles Davis, Five Pound Box of Money by Pearl Bailey, and Z'at You, Santa Claus? by Louis Armstrong My top 3 Christmas songs. Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC gets honorable mention.
I'll be #teampineapple till the day I die in spite of my inability to eat it from about '07 to '12. But it is an action flick that happens AROUND a Christmas party. That its Christmas has nothing at all to do with the plot except as an explanation for why folks are there after hours. It could have just as easily been a retirement party.
Ahem; Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? No, it’s the ULTIMATE Christmas movie. Forget the debate about the date; look at the story beats. John McClane isn’t just an action hero; he’s a holiday archetype: The Grinch with Guns: McClane starts as a "Grinch" hating the LA noise. Just like the Grinch, his shoes are "too tight" (he takes them off immediately), and he’s isolated himself from those he loves. A Christmas Carol Remixed: Argyle is the Ghost of Christmas Past (youthful energy). Sergeant Al Powell is the Ghost of Christmas Present (empathy and goodwill). Hans Gruber is the Ghost of Christmas Future. A warning of what happens when you prioritize greed and "expensive suits" over family. Biblical Symbols: McClane survives "the seven seals" (the Nakatomi vault safeguards) and ends the night with wounds on his hands and feet (stigmata) to save "Holly"; a name literally derived from "Holy." Ancient Myth: It’s a retelling of the Winter Solstice battle between the Oak King (Light/McClane) and the Holly King (Darkness/Gruber). By the time he throws Hans off the building, McClane’s heart has grown ten sizes, he’s found redemption, and he’s reclaimed the holiday spirit. Conclusion: McClane is basically Scrooge, the Grinch, and a Solstice King all wrapped into one vest. Case closed. 👊✨
