I agree. The only thing I’d add here is that we have to do it properly and not hastily. Given our history with DMs, I think this is one area of Nostr that we need to fix, for real.

@JeffG Last year I compiled some ideas for a stealth nostr communication.

Sequence diagram:

Every DM should come with 12 SATS minimum. If someone wants me believe that they are a) a real person and b) not a scammer then I must be compensated for my time. It also would almost eliminate haters filling up your DM
Jason Lowery talked about the concept of “cost of attack” in his MIT thesis and he’s spot on. If you want to stop spammers and scammers then you have to make it too expensive for them to attack you.
Imagine making a controversial post and having tens of thousands of haters filling up your DM with shit comments about you but each one comes with SATS 🤣🤣🤣
Wish I knew what any of that means. 🤣🤣🤣
dms platforms are the worst. For security they are the most closed, no web client-agnostic access, no apis, give us phone number and stick in our walled garden.
I recognize how "good" signal is, someway is the platform I hate most and want to leave.
Basically, it encrypts all the metadata preventing any leakage, and use a channel mixer where all messages are put together to make it hard to relate/link them. 😉
Obviously
🤣🤣🤣
Cool. Thanks - I will have a look.
FWIW, I'm using MLS (https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9420.html) for the messenger client I'm building right now.
But, imagine a world based on Nostr keys for identity (not phone or email) and relays as the servers in between. Relays know nothing about your or the comm, there's no lock in cause the client and the protocol are completely open source... We're nearly there.
Yes, this is 100% doable. Not even that hard.
Youre make me dreaming jeff, this is exactly what the world needs
This is an excellent idea!
But we need a white list, so that you can add friends and family.
Which brings us to the question what if someone changes his key pair and wants you to add his new key to the white list, or a family member who just joined nostr? How will he notify you?
