Twitter hasn't been a public town square since Elon took over and de facto shadow-banned all non-KYC'ed users, aka blue checks. The "For You" algo is broken beyond repairs, and all discussions to have our own "custom" algos vanished. The $1 "test run" to limit bots is laughable in an era where VPNs can be accessed for free. On top of that, many scams come from blue-checked accounts, and 90% of my ads are blue-checked scams. Lastly, money is dished out to "influencers" based on engagement, but there is no auditable record to see how much, when and why money was sent to whom. Thus it's possible these payouts are used to mute/amplify/buy-out certain people.

Twitter has been broken for years, but in various ways pre- and post-Melon. The irony of the whole debacle is while actual product development and innovation on Twitter / "X" is at an all time high, it's Melon's repeated, unilateral and impulsive meddling that's creating a lot of uncertainty around the future of the platform.
