Social media rewards authenticity and people who are not afraid to talk unfiltered.
Filtration comes off as fake and our minds subconsciously recognize that.
It is not surprising then that people who actually participate and share are the ones who get followed.
Overall, it’s all a shitshow. Follower count really doesn’t mean anything. Just be yourself to the best of your ability and enjoy the daily interactions. The hell with counts!

But, truthfuly, I do like a number going up. x) It's nice. Guess it's a bit of an "ungabunga instinct"...?
Jokes aside tho. This is very much why I like Nostr so much. Sometimes you scream into the void, sometimes someone replies and you find yourself talking to them for a long while or even find someone who comes back to interact with you from time to time. And sometimes, some crazy shenanigans happen (remember the #beardstr moment? XD). It's honest, and I like that.
