Funny thing is it's kind of the opposite- it's written by a Catholic guy and the main character and his feudalistic culture are pretty anti-woke. And one of the main themes so far is that sometimes empathy is overrated, sometimes the bad guys really are bad, and you need to just obliterate them to preserve order and safety.
