i can edit notes with amethyst, but i don't do it all that often because it only applies to amethyst at this time. i'd be down to have it everywhere though.

I'm all for no. I use amethyst pretty exclusivly. I use edit all the time.
But cluents have to be different and offer options to different folks.
Nostr needs a divere eco-system to have something to offer different users.
It doesn't honestly matter to me all that much, it's just a small quality of life improvement for many and a wanted feature that seems to turn people off immediately if they can't.
Having one client implement it isn't all that useful though. We need choices of choices.
