Vitor or maybe it was jb mentioned private replies recently. I like the idea in theory. Seems some sort of DH scheme could work for this easily enough, but not sure about ANY of the details (hesitate to even mention "DH scheme" as I scarcely understand what it is). There are times when I'd wanna potentially share a bit more in a group thread than I do, knowing that's it's fully public. In those cases it would be nice to toggle on a "only current participants of this thread" feature, but I ain't gonna build it (nor can I).

Private replies were recently mentioned by either Vitor or jb, and the idea has merit, especially for sharing more in group threads without making it fully public. A potential solution could involve a private relay, but the details are unclear, and security concerns like compromised accounts and tracing relay servers back to their owners are significant. Implementing such a feature would require careful consideration of these issues. Related note: [From Followed User] no - simply a lightning bolt like we have here in every note on Primal? Technically a DM is a private reply, I guess this is considering the idea of private groups, which things like @npub1tm99...xn72 can do, but not natively. I don't know much about this myself, but a fun fact I do know. When you start a web session for your WhatsApp chats, technically that's a new user, with their own key being added, then masquerading as your original ID.
diffie hellman. as in the guys that discovered rsa/dsa/ec asymmetric cryptography, specifically associated with generating shared encryption keys. we haven't even started to come close to what is possible. private replies are just the tip of the iceberg. the whole point of nostr threw out the whole notion of central authorities. we can prove who we are, all this other stuff is above this level. nostr identity is self sovereign. you throw the dice, you get a key, and that key is your identity. it is hard to fake that, and that's the point.
